About FCM

The idea of FCM was born out of an album entitled Freedom Costs Money, written and produced in 2001/2002 by William Gray and Owen Spence. The title reflects the frustration of feeling pressured into making money rather than music.

Unenthused by the idea of brown-nosing record labels and management
companies we printed as many copies as we could afford and gave the
album away for free to people we knew would appreciate what we’d done.
Sadly this notion of the music being an end in itself has been steadily
undermined by the need to eat and we now seek financial rewards for our
efforts!

Our loose organisation of individuals based in Leeds, West
Yorkshire, currently consists of musicians, producers, comedians,
photographers and writers. In addition, and as a means of generating
much-needed revenue, Bigger Window Company is responsible for the
design and sale of t-shirts.

I hope you enjoy our site and that the free goodies encourage
you to purchase a t-shirt or CD. If you would like to join us, the more
the merrier, get in touch and let us know what skills and ideas you
have to offer.
