Engine Room Christmas Extra-Ava-ganza!

Piskie Sits

Clearly heavily influenced by the school of flaming lips and pavement, the Sits combine some playful guitars off beat lyrical flow that works well, but at times lacks real strength to the melody. This, combined with that standard flaw of American accented vocals. Piskie Sits are from Wakefield, so come on boys lets hear a wakey accent. But they're a talented bunch and played with confidence, finishing with a Christmas at the Drugstore song by Drugstore, very festive, warming and easy to listen to.

The Playmates

The Playmates burst forth with what can only be described as Spunk Rock, hilariously so, the scantily clad, radio-mike-roving lead singer runs loose round the bar like a child in a shop, constantly fiddling with himself and pretending (we hope) to orally pleasure the guitarist, who looked like a Power Ranger.

I was reminded for the first time ever of the Gaye Bikers On Acid,
fantastic, if predictable Rock riffs, pounding beats, and truly
perverted subject matter, fornication, masturbation, songs so dirty you have to believe that they are true. Musically speaking they were not the most amazing, original or ground breaking thing you'll ever see, but for entertainment they are right up there with RoboChrist, Fan-Fooking-tastic

Tramp Attack

Absolutely no introduction needed for these four liverpudlian
wonders, back for another Christmas Special at the Engine Room - and who better for the headline slot - Tramp Attack offer something old, new, borrowed and blue in their music. Playing all upfront in a row, the drummer with just a snare, sharing the vocal duties and harmonies the Attack belt through tunes and give the solid impression that they just really enjoy it. Sadly missing their title song, but making up for it with some other old faves, Setbacks and 1471 both went down a storm. Every one dances and before you know it we might as well be in Ireland. The Attack are still a guaranteed fantastic act, though with such able vocal talent they could easily build the harmony structure and add more layers and complexity, but maybe they just don't want to!

Add to this a huge amount of drink, the Christmas Quiz with a very Dodgey Father Christmas and a traditional Warm Engine Room Welcome, and it's another fantastic night at the Brudenel.
